| You may receive an error message "xprt5.dll not found" while trying to launch the AOL® software. Listed below are some solutions to resolve the issue. After trying the first solution, check to see if you can connect to the AOL® service. If not, continue using the suggested solutions until the problem is fixed.
You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.
Information You Need
You will need to know the version of the Microsoft® Windows® operating system installed on your computer. If you do not know how to find this information, follow the instructions in the online help article entitled How do I determine the version of Windows I have.
Solutions
Run Quick Restore to reset the AOL software
The Quick Restore feature allows you to reset the AOL software to the default state deleting all updates downloaded in the past. It can help resolve issues you may be having with your AOL software without having to reinstall the software. Please ensure that the AOL software is closed before you perform the steps below. In order to provide you with the most current version of the AOL software, you will receive a series of updates upon each sign off. Learn more about the AOL software update.
Notes:
- Quick Restore cannot be run on the AOL® Desktop software. If you are using the AOL Desktop software, please use alternative steps.
- After running Quick Restore, the AOL® software may prompt you to select your default Web application, and some Web applications may need to be reset. However, Favorite Places and E-mail saved in the Personal Filing Cabinet will not be lost.
1. Click the Start button, select Programs or All Programs, select America Online, and then click AOL System Information.
Note: If using Windows Vista®, click Continue.
 2. On the left of the AOL System Information 2.0 window, click the AOL Software tab.
 3. Click the Quick Restore button.
 4. Click the OK button.
 5. Once Quick Restore is completed, click Close.
 6. Click the X button to close the AOL System Information 2.0 window.
 7. Launch the AOL software as you normally would and sign on.
Notes:
- If the Screen Name: box shows Existing Member, click the Sign On button. You will be prompted to enter your screen name and password. The next time you sign on, all the screen names on your AOL account will appear.
- If you do not see the Password: box, click the Screen Name: drop-down menu to open it, and then select another screen name from the list. Once you have selected a different screen name, the Password: box should reappear. You can then select any screen name from the drop-down menu to sign on.

Uninstall and Reinstall the AOL Software
If you are still unable to connect to the AOL service, we recommend you uninstall and reinstall the AOL software. Uninstalling the AOL software removes all damaged connectivity files that can't be repaired. Once uninstallation is complete, reinstalling a new copy of the AOL software is quick and easy.
