You can upgrade the AOL Desktop Software to a higher version if your computer meets the minimum system requirements for that version. To check if your computer meets the requirement for AOL Desktop, please refer to our help article System requirements for the AOL Desktop Software. When you upgrade to the newer version of the AOL Desktop, all your existing settings – such as your Usernames, filing cabinet, favorite places, software settings and AOL downloads – will be transferred to the newer version.

Note: You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.

If you have saved your AOL password on the AOL Desktop Software, ensure that you remember your password before you perform the steps given below as upgrading the AOL Desktop Software may delete your saved password. If you don’t remember your password, we recommend that you change your password before proceeding any further. You will also need to remember the answer to your Account Security Question (ASQ) to be able to change your password. You can change your ASQ if you don’t remember the answer to it. To upgrade your AOL software

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Upgrade or


3. Click Run.

4. Click Run again.

Note: If prompted by the User Account Control window, click Yes or Continue.

5. Click Continue Install to close all applications running on your computer.


6. Click Upgrade or Install New Version, based on what you prefer to do.


Note: The following screenshots are from the Install New Version option.

7. Select the options of your choice and click Next.


8. Select the Install Now option.

9. Click the Use your existing AOL Screen Name option, and then click Next.

Your updated homepage will now appear. There you have it. You now have the latest version of AOL Desktop. Enjoy!
