If you see a red X in the place of a graphic in your AOL emails, try the solutions listed below. After trying the first solution, check whether you are able to view graphics in your emails. If you are still unable to view graphics, continue trying the suggested solutions until the problem is fixed.
Delete browser cache and rebuild AOL Adapter
AOL Adapter connects the AOL Desktop Software to Internet Explorer. Any damage to the adapter can adversely affect the AOL service and your access to the web. The steps to delete the browser cache and rebuild AOL Adapter may differ depending on the version of AOL Connectivity Service (ACS) installed on your computer. Please click the appropriate link given below.
Run Quick Restore
Note: Please close the AOL Desktop Software before running Quick Restore.
The Quick Restore feature allows you to reset the AOL Desktop Software to the default state by deleting all the updates downloaded in the past. It can help resolve issues that you may have with your AOL Desktop Software without having to reinstall the software.
Once Quick Restore is completed, you may receive a series of AOL Desktop Software updates, also known as AOL TOD (Tools on Demand) updates.
The instructions to run Quick Restore may differ depending on the version of ACS installed on your computer. Click the appropriate link from the ones given below for instructions to run Quick Restore.
Note: If you are using AOL Desktop v10.1, skip to the next solution.
Reset web settings
If you've installed multiple web browsers your settings may have changed; however, you can reset your browser to its default settings. The homepage, the search pages and the default browser will be reset without changing the settings of the other browsers on your computer. Install the latest version of Java
Installing the most recent version of Java can definitely fix certain issues, so it's best to keep it up to date. For instructions on how to install Java, refer to the help article Download and install the latest Java Virtual Machine.
Uninstall Internet Explorer 9 and reinstall previous version of Internet Explorer
If you've installed the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate (RC), this could be causing your Welcome Screen to be distorted. Uninstalling IE 9 and reinstalling your previous version of Internet Explorer will fix this issue.
To Uninstall the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate:
1. Click the Start button and type 'Programs and Features' in the search box
2. Under Control Panel, click Programs and Features.
3. In the left column under Control Panel Home, click View installed updates.
4. Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
5. Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9 and then click Uninstall.
6. When prompted, click Yes.
7. Click Restart now to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9, and restoring the previous version of Internet Explorer.
Note: After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9 RC, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your computer. It is not necessary to reinstall.
