Whenever you visit websites, temporary internet files called cookies are stored on your computer to record your return visits and allow you to access information faster. Sometimes you may experience error messages while accessing websites because your cookies have been disabled. In those cases you may need to enable cookies to continue.

Before you begin, you’ll need to know the version of the browser you’re using. Unsure of the version you’re using? Check out our help article How do I find the version of my web browser?

To enable cookies on your browser, select your browser below:

Microsoft Edge

1. Open Microsoft Edge.

2. Click on the Menu Button that is located in the top-right corner of the browser's window.

3. Click Settings.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings Menu and click on View Advanced Settings.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings Menu and click the box below Cookies. This will bring up a drop-down menu with more options.

6. In this drop-down menu select "Don't block cookies".

7. Done! You have enabled cookies on Microsoft Edge!

Internet Explorer 9.0

To enable cookies on Internet Explorer 9.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu (gear icon), and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.

4. Check the box next to Override automatic cookie handling.

5. For both First-party Cookies and Third-party Cookies, click on of the options listed below:

  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to always allow cookies to save on your computer, select the Accept option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to never allow cookies to save on your computer, select the Block option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to ask whether you want to allow a cookie to save on your computer, select the Prompt option.

Note: Third-party cookies are cookies from websites other than the one you are currently viewing.

6. Click the Always allow session cookies box either to place a check mark in it or to clear it.

7. Click OK.

8. Click OK again.

You’re all set! You’ve enabled cookies on Internet Explorer 9.0.


Internet Explorer 8.0

To enable cookies in Internet Explorer 8.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.

Note: Alternatively, move the Settings slider to the bottom to Accept All Cookies, and then click OK. However, if you don't see the slider under Settings, click Default next to Advanced, and then move the slider to Accept All Cookies.

4. Check the box next to Override automatic cookie handling.

5. In the First-party Cookies and the Third-party Cookies sections, choose a suitable option from the following:

  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to always allow cookies to be saved on your computer, select the Accept option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to never allow cookies to be saved on your computer, select the Block option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to ask whether you want to allow a cookie to be saved on your computer, select the Prompt option.

Note: Third-party cookies are cookies from Web sites other than the one that you are currently viewing.

6. Click the check box next to Always allow session cookies to either place a check mark in it or clear it.

Note: Session cookies are cookies that are deleted from your computer when you close Internet Explorer.

7. Click OK.

8. Click OK again.

You're all set! You've successfully enabled cookies in Internet Explorer 8.0


Internet Explorer 7.0

To enable cookies for Internet Explorer 7.0:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.

Note: Alternatively, move the Settings slider to the bottom to Accept All Cookies, and then click OK. However, if you don't see the slider under Settings, click Default, and then move the slider to Accept All Cookies.

4. Check the Override automatic cookie handling check box.

5. Under First-Party Cookies and Third-Party Cookies, ensure that both the Accept options are selected, and then click OK.

6. Click OK again.

You're done! You've successfully enabled cookies for Internet Explorer 7.0.


Internet Explorer 6.0

To enable cookies on Internet Explorer 6.0:

1. Click Start, select Programs or All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.

2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.

3. Click the Privacy tab, and then click Advanced.

4. Check the box next to Override automatic cookie handling.

5. For both First-party Cookies and Third-party Cookies, click one of the options listed below:

  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to always allow cookies to be saved on your computer, select the Accept option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to never allow cookies to be saved on your computer, select the Block option.
  • To specify that you want Internet Explorer to ask whether you want to allow a cookie to be saved on your computer, select the Prompt option.

Note: Third-party cookies are cookies from websites other than the one you are currently viewing.

6. Click the Always allow session cookies box either to place a check mark in it or to clear it.

7. Click OK to close the Advanced Privacy Settings window.

8. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

9. Click the File menu, and then click Close.

You're all set! You've enabled cookies on Internet Explorer 6.0.


Mozilla Firefox 3.6

To enable cookies in Firefox 3.6:

1. Open Firefox.

2. Click Tools, and then click Options.

3. Click the Privacy icon.

4. Check the box next to Accept cookies from sites, and then click OK.

Good job! You've successfully enabled cookies in Firefox 3.6.


Mozilla Firefox 3.5

To enable cookies in Firefox 3.5:

1. Open Firefox.

2. Click Tools, and then click Options.

3. Click the Privacy icon.

4. Check the box next to Accept cookies from sites, and then click OK.

Nicely done! You've successfully enabled cookies in Firefox 3.5.


Netscape Navigator

To enable cookies on Netscape Navigator:
1. Open Netscape Navigator.
2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.

3. Click the Privacy icon.

4. In the Cookies section, check the box next to Accept cookies from sites, and then click OK.

Hooray! You've successfully enabled cookies in Netscape Navigator.


Safari

To enable cookies on Safari:

1. Open Safari.

2. Click the Safari menu, and then click Preferences.

3. Click the Security tab.

4. Next to Accept Cookies, select the Always option.

Woohoo! You've successfully enabled cookies on Safari.


Google Chrome

To enable cookies on Google Chrome:

1. Start Google Chrome. Below the X button, click the Customize and control Google Chrome menu (spanner icon), and then click Options.

2. Click the Under the Hood tab.

3. Under the Privacy section, click Content settings....

4. Select the Allow local data to be set (recommended) button.

5. Click Close.

Congratulations! Your cookies have been enabled.
