E-mail protection detects and blocks threats in inbound (POP3) and outbound (SMTP) e-mail messages and attachments, which include viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, adware, and other threats.

Before you get started, determine if you have the newest version of McAfee Internet Security Center - Special Edition from AOL (version 12.8) or an older version.

If you have the older version of McAfee, do not click I have the new McAfee Security Center link below. Just follow the instructions below. 

Enable e-mail/instant messaging protection

E-mail protection detects threats and worms in inbound (POP3) and outbound (SMTP) e-mail messages and attachments. Worms can send copies of themselves through e-mail messages.

1. On the Windows taskbar next to the clock, double-click the McAfee M icon.

2. On the Advanced Menu, click the Configure tab.

 

Note: If you are unable to see the Configure tab, click the Advanced Menu link, then click the Configure tab.

3. On the Configure pane, click the E-mail & IM link.

 

4. In the E-mail & IM Configuration pane:
  • Click the E-mail protection link to open it, choose the On/Off option to enable/disable e-mail protection.

  • Click the Instant Messaging protection link to open it, choose the On/Off option to enable/disable instant messaging protection.
