LifeLock Member Benefit FAQs

Members who upgrade their account to certain AOL Advantage plans are eligible for complimentary LifeLock identity theft protection1. Is the complimentary LifeLock membership free?

Yes it is, but only to certain AOL members. You will be notified once this benefit is available to you with instructions on how to complete a simple enrollment form to activate this feature.

Members currently on eligible AOL Advantage Plans can activate their free LifeLock service today at lifelock.aol.com.

How long does the complimentary LifeLock membership last?

Once you’ve activated your LifeLock benefit, you will have continued complimentary access to your LifeLock service for as long as you remain on an eligible AOL Advantage Plan.

How is the complimentary LifeLock membership different from a free trial?

When you subscribe to a free trial of an AOL product, the trial typically lasts one month, at which time you can either cancel the subscription or begin paying a monthly or annual fee. In this case, as long as you stay on an eligible AOL Advantage Plan, you won’t pay an extra cent for your complimentary LifeLock membership.

How do I know my personal information is secure with LifeLock identity theft protection?

LifeLock takes significant measures to ensure all sensitive member data is secure.

LifeLock also maintains the highest level of PCI-DSS compliance
LifeLock is compliant as a Level 1 merchant under the PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). PCI-DSS is a set of requirements that help protect cardholder data and is the accepted standard for all organizations that process credit card information.

In maintaining Level 1 compliance, LifeLock performs periodic vulnerability scanning and penetration testing of its network and other critical applications, applies industry-accepted encryption to all sensitive data, enforces strict and formal logical access controls and separation of duties, and restricts access to LifeLock facilities through biometric reader access.

Is my entire family covered by the complimentary LifeLock membership?

The complimentary LifeLock membership applies only to the master or designated master Username on the account – one membership per account. So, while the complimentary LifeLock membership only covers one Username’s personal identity, you can protect each one of your friends and family members with a free 30-day trial LifeLock membership followed by a discounted rate of $8.99 a per month4. You can add protection for friends or family members by filling out the information on the confirmation page after you’ve signed up for your complimentary LifeLock membership. All you need are their names and email addresses – they don’t even have to be AOL users.

In addition, AOL Usernames with a General Username status will be able to make Add a Family Member LifeLock purchases. If an attempt is made to purchase an Add a Family Member subscription for a person with the same first name and last name as an existing Add a Family Member subscription on the same account, a notification will surface.

Note: As your friend’s LifeLock sponsor, you will be responsible for paying his or her $8.99 per month discounted membership fee after the 30-day free trial4.

What happens to my complimentary LifeLock membership if I change AOL Advantage Plan or cancel my AOL account?

This complimentary LifeLock membership is available only to active AOL members on the select AOL Advantage Plans. If you decide to change your AOL Advantage Plan to one that does not offer LifeLock as a benefit, you will no longer qualify for the complimentary LifeLock membership and it will be immediately cancelled.

Likewise, if you choose to cancel your AOL membership or convert to a Free AOL account, this will also cancel your LifeLock protection. If the cancellation is pending your next billing date, your LifeLock subscription will remain active until the cancellation of your AOL account is complete.

How do I sign up for the complimentary LifeLock membership?

Signing up is easy! You will be notified once this benefit is available to you with instructions on how to complete a simple enrollment form to activate this feature.

If you are currently on an eligible AOL Advantage Plan, you can activate your LifeLock service today. Go to lifelock.aol.com and click Activate Now. Sign in with your master or designated master Username and password. Next, you’ll need the following information:

  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Phone numbers

We understand that entering your personal data online can be scary, but AOL and LifeLock have teamed up to make it possible to protect your information. First, AOL will not store your Social Security number. Your SSN will be passed directly to LifeLock on a secure server. LifeLock takes significant measures to ensure all sensitive LifeLock member data is secured.

Once you’re finished filling out the form, click Complete Enrollment. You’ll receive an email confirmation from AOL and LifeLock along with log-in credentials for the company’s website, which is where you go to complete activation. Once you do that, you can relax in knowing that your identity is protected.

Note: If you’d like to add protection for a friend or family member, fill out the information on the confirmation page after you’ve signed up for your complimentary LifeLock membership.

How does LifeLock protect my identity?

What are the details of the LifeLock $1 Million Total Service Guarantee?

LifeLock works to help protect you from identity theft before the damage is done by taking proactive steps to reduce your risk. As a LifeLock member, if you become a victime of idenity theft, LifeLock will spend up to $1 million to hire experts to help your recovery. LifeLock will spend up to $1 million on lawyers, investigators, consultants and whatever else it takes to restore your good name and recover the direct losses of the identity theft.

  • Identity theft insurance included with your LifeLock membership – with zero deductible – reimburses you for certain out-of-pocket expenses due to a stolen identity event**, and LifeLock will retain lawyers, investigators and case managers on your behalf.

How do I cancel my complimentary LifeLock membership?
