What is broadband?

The term “broadband” refers to a high-speed internet connection that uses a satellite, digital subscriber line or cable connection for data transmission. A broadband connection is usually a lot faster than a dial-up connection and allows you to browse the web and download videos, music and games much more quickly.

A dial-up service connects to the internet through a phone line with a maximum speed of 56 kbps.

Broadband refers to a connection that transmits a large amount of data at a high speed. A connection having a download speed of 256 kbps or faster is currently classified as broadband.

You cannot make and receive phone calls while you are connected to the internet with a dial-up connection.

You can make and receive phone calls while you are connected to the internet with a broadband connection.

Dial-up connection speeds make it more difficult to view videos. It takes much longer to download software, open email attachments and play online games.

Broadband allows you to surf the web or download software much faster than a dial-up connection.

The advantages of a broadband connection over a dial-up connection include:
