Whether you're sending a fun pick-me-up message or a professional resume, AOL Mail makes it simple to add what you need to your messages with options to insert images, GIFs and emojis into emails, and to attach documents, images and other files.
Attach files and images to an email
- In AOL Mail, click Compose.
- Click the Attach icon

- Your computer's file manager will open. - Find and select the file or image you'd like to attach.
- Click Open.
The file or image will be attached below the body of the email. If you'd like to insert an image directly into the body of an email, check out the steps in the "Insert images into an email" section of this article.
Insert images into an email
- In AOL Mail, click Compose.
- Once you've composed your message, place the cursor where you'd like to insert an image.
- Click the Image icon

- Your computer's file manager will open. - Find and select the image file you'd like to insert.
Alternatively, you may drag and drop an image from your computer directly into the body of the message.
Insert emojis into an email
- In AOL Mail, click Compose.
- Click the Emoji icon
. - Select the emoji you'd like to use.
Insert GIFs into an email
- In AOL Mail. click Compose.
- Click the GIF icon
. - Search for a specific GIF or browse by category.
- Mouse over the GIF you want to use.
- Click the GIF to insert it into your email.
The GIF will be inserted wherever your cursor is placed in the email message.
Problems with attachments
Experiencing difficulty when attaching a file? Here are a few common issues:
- Special characters - remove special characters from the title and try again.
- Unsupported web browser - make sure you're using a supported web browser.
- Some file types present a security risk - AOL Mail doesn't support some file types, such as .exe, .bat, .jar and others, because they can be used to distribute malware.
