I used AOL Sync powered by Funambol. What do I do now?

To simplify the way AOL data is shared to mobile applications, we have closed the service formerly known as AOL Sync powered by Funambol.

If you used AOL Sync to get your AOL Mail, Contacts or Calendar on a mobile device, here are the new ways to sync.

Before: AOL Sync used a single 3rd-party app (Funambol) to sync & manage your AOL and your mobile Device data on its servers. Now: Your AOL data remains on AOL servers, and you access it using IMAP for Mail, CardDAV for Contacts, and CalDAV for Calendar.

IMAP: For Mail, the protocol is IMAP. Chances are you're already getting mail on your device using IMAP.

CardDAV: CardDAV brings your AOL Contacts into your device's Contacts.

CalDAV: CalDAV puts your AOL Calendar(s) on your device's Calendar.

IMAP, CardDAV and CalDAV are the same standards used by other popular providers like Google, Yahoo and Apple to access their Mail, Contact and Calendar data in different applications.

(You can also get AOL Mail and Contacts on your device using the AOL app – no setup required. And mail.aol.com on your device's browser is another option. Both are always in sync.)

When you add new events or contacts on your device – and you want them to show up on your AOL Calendar or in your AOL Contacts – just make sure you select your AOL Calendar or your AOL Contacts when you add the new events or contacts.

That way, new events or new contacts will also show up when you sign into AOL elsewhere.

If you don't specify AOL Calendar or Contacts, then new events or new contacts you enter on your device are only being saved to that device.

If you'd like, on most devices you can make AOL the default calendar and/or the default contacts list. That way when you add new events or new contacts, they are automatically saved in your AOL Calendar or Contacts.

And again, you can also simply use the AOL app, or mail.aol.com on the device's browser, to stay in sync.

Outlook – If you used AOL Sync powered by Funambol to get your AOL Calendar in Outlook, we regret that we don't currently have an officially recommended CalDAV Outlook plugin. A few do exist, and you may find one that fits your needs. And you can always get your AOL Mail in Outlook via IMAP.
